LGBT Youth and Families

The Jewish community sometimes has problems admitting that there are any problems. One of the main issues that we tend to deny is that some of us have children who do not fit our expectations of sexual orientations or gender identity. Some of us are those children who so not fit our parents’ expectations of sexual orientations or gender identity. To some in the Jewish community homosexuality is morally and ethically forbidden. It is seen as an offense against God.  The LGBT children in parts of our community feel ostracized and uncomfortable.  They are dealing with identity crisis, familiarity with their orientation and coping with bullying in school.

No child decides to be gay, lesbian, bi-sexual or transgender. It is not a choice. It is something that God determines. Are we supposed to stop loving our children if they tell us that they are gay, lesbian, bi-sexual or transgender? These children have a hard enough time coping with the stigma that society puts on them. If this was your child would you abandon him/her?         Beth Moshe Congregation offers the following list of resources for LGBT children and their families:
